UT Martin Shifts Just Outside Of Top-Five In Team Standings After Day 2 Of Peoples Golf Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Tennessee at Martin squad moved up one spot after another solid round at the Peoples Golf Championship today, sitting just one stroke outside of the top-five on the team leaderboard after carding a 286 (+2) in Round 2.
The Skyhawks have compiled a 36-hole tally of 570 (+2), which ranks only behind Western Carolina (-9), Samford (-5), Xavier (-4), Tennessee Tech (E), Villanova (+1) and Valparaiso (+1) in the 21-team field. UT Martin's 115 pars through two rounds ranks second in the field while the Skyhawks have notched 28 birdies.
UT Martin's Round 2 leader was sophomore Drew Williams as the Greensboro, Ga. product shot a 69 (-2) with a team-best five birdies on the day. Grant Phillips' even-par 71 included a pair of birdies while Jaden Morrell (an eagle plus two birdies) and Luke Caldwell (three birdies) rounded out the Skyhawk scoring with identical 73's (+2).
John-Gregory Wilson was the fifth member of UT Martin's scoring lineup today, rolling in four birdies on the way to a 75 (+4). Ian Lambert also registered four birdies during the second round and finished his day with a 75 (+4) while competing as an individual.
Overall, Williams' 142 (E) paces the Skyhawks and ranks 19th in the 123-man field. Morrell has tallied a 143 (+1) to rank 25th in the tournament and is followed by Caldwell (144, +2), Wilson (145, +3) and Phillips (147, +5). Lambert's two-round total is a 161 (+19).
Morrell ranks third in the field in par-3 scoring (2.90, -1) while Phillips and Caldwell both rank ninth in pars (25). Wilson's eight birdies check in at 14th in the field as he is also tied with Caldwell for 15th in the event in par-4 scoring (4.00, E). Williams and Morrell are tied for the 16th-best par-5 scoring average (4.63, -3) in the field.
The third round at the Sea Palms Resort will take place tomorrow as all six UT Martin representatives will tee off Hole No. 1. Lambert – who is paired up with individuals from Valparaiso and Florida A&M – gets things started at 9:50 a.m. CT and will be followed by Phillips (10:00 a.m. CT), Wilson (10:10 a.m. CT), Caldwell (10:20 a.m. CT), Morrell (10:30 a.m. CT) and Williams (10:40 a.m. CT). The Skyhawk scoring lineup will be matched up with Drexel and Siena in the final round.
