Middleton’s Nabs Third OVC Freshman Honor of the Season

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Sidney Middleton of the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team was named as the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced Tuesday.
Middleton averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds over a 1-1 week for the Skyhawks. She scored eight points at Eastern Illinois, where she was 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and 11 at Western Illinois. At the free-throw line, she was a perfect 7-for-7, going 2-for-2 against the Panthers and 5-for-5 against the Leathernecks.
On the season, she is third on the team in points per game at 9.6, to go along with 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 steals per game. She is currently shooting 31.2-percent from the field and 22.9-percent from 3-point range.
At 92.0-percent, Middleton currently ranks fourth in the nation and second in the OVC in free throw percentage. So far this season, she has made 46 of her 50 free-throw attempts.
Middleton and the Skyhawks are heading into a packed week with three games at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center. On Tuesday, UT Martin hosts Little Rock at 5: 30 p.m., followed by Southern Indiana Thursday at 5 p.m. and Morehead State on Saturday at Noon.
