DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference recognized a pair of University of Tennessee at Martin representatives today as the league hailed Ava Jo Glenn (horsemanship) and Claire Carpenter (reining) as its Riders of the Week.
The tandem of Glenn and Carpenter are the sixth and seventh Skyhawks to receive an ECAC weekly award in 2025-26, joining Daphne Stavig (fences on Oct. 7), Elise Mason (reining on Oct. 7), Audrey Morris (fences on Nov. 4), Kailyn Veale (horsemanship on Nov. 4) and Payton Bundy (reining on Nov. 4).
The Western discipline standouts helped UT Martin hold its own against the best two teams in the country last weekend in its spring-opening meets. The Skyhawks fell 13-5 to No. 2 Georgia as UT Martin was only two points behind (1,447 to 1,445) the defending national champions in raw score. The Skyhawks then followed that with a narrow 11-8 setback to No. 1 Auburn, edging out the Tigers by a 5-4 tally in Western.
A junior out of Ennis, Texas, Glenn was unbeaten (1-0-1) over the weekend. Making just the second and third starts of her UT Martin career, the Minnesota-Crookston transfer tied her head-to-head opponent from the Bulldogs with a career-best 76.5 points aboard Vinny on Friday. The next day against Auburn, Glenn picked up her first win as a Skyhawk with a 68.5-point performance on Luigi – defeating her competitor by 0.5 points.
Carpenter went 2-0 last weekend, extending her team-best marks in reining victories (five) and MOP's (two). The junior from Bowling Green, Ohio collected MOP accolades against Georgia on Friday, compiling 68.5 points on Duke to win by 0.5 points over her opponent. Carpenter then notched 69.5 points aboard Amos on Saturday against the top-ranked Tigers, besting her counterpart by 1.5 points.
UT Martin is back in action later this month when it holds its final two home meets of the 2025-26 campaign. The Skyhawks will host Delaware State (Feb. 20) and Minnesota-Crookston (Feb. 21) in a pair of ECAC matchups on Senior Weekend at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
