BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced University of Tennessee at Martin senior Luke Caldwell as its Golfer of the Week today, less than 48 hours after he finished as runner-up at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
This marks the second OVC Golfer of the Week accolade for Caldwell in 2025-26 as the Cookeville, Tenn. native also won those honors on Oct. 9. He becomes only the 11th player in program history to win multiple OVC Golfer of the Week awards. As a team, the Skyhawks have now claimed three OVC Golfer of the Week honors this season as Drew Williams also won on Nov. 7.
Caldwell's second-place finish out of 119 competitors was the best of his collegiate career as he finished with a 203 (-13) over 54 holes. That tally included rounds of 71-66-66, equaling a career-best score in each of the final two rounds of the event held at Palm Valley Golf Club.
After his first round scorecard on Sunday included a pair of birdies and 15 pars, Caldwell broke loose for eight birdies during Monday's Round 2 action. He ended the tournament with six birdies and an eagle on Tuesday, including a six-hole span where he shot 6-under par.
For the tournament, Caldwell topped the whole field in par-4 scoring average (3.73, -8) while his 16 birdies (fifth) and 3.08 (+1) par-3 scoring average (11th) each ranked amongst the best in their respective categories.
Caldwell currently ranks third in the OVC with a 70.6 stroke average, delivering a dozen rounds of red scores in 18 opportunities. Through six tournaments this season, the lefty boasts a pair of top-five finishes, three top-10 placements and four top-20 efforts.
UT Martin is back in action on March 12-14 when it takes part in the People's Golf Championship, hosted by Western Carolina at Sea Palms Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
