MARTIN, Tenn. – Sitting in sole possession of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad returns home tomorrow to face the Southeast Missouri Redhawks. Tipoff time is set for 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game as part of a doubleheader.
The Skyhawks are 31-14 all-time against Southeast Missouri at home and 28-11 since the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center opened in 1978. UT Martin has won seven straight home decisions against the Redhawks although three of those have been by five points or less (including last season's 66-63 victory).
The Skyhawks (20-7, 12-4 OVC) will look to avenge a 66-50 setback to Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau back on Jan. 20. In that game, Matas Deniusas led UT Martin with 11 points while Andrija Bukumirović snared a career-high 14 rebounds but the Skyhawks were held to a season-low scoring tally.
UT Martin is coming off an eventful 81-76 road triumph at SIUE on Saturday - sealing the program's sixth 20-win campaign in its NCAA Division I Era (since 1992). The Skyhawks led 44-32 at the halftime break but had to overcome an 11-point deficit with 12 minutes remaining. Bukumirović (team-best 19 points, game-high nine rebounds), Pedro Santos (15 points), Deniusas (13 points), Filip Radaković (13 points, career-best four steals) and Afan Trnka (13 points, game-high five assists) helped UT Martin shoot 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from three-point land.
The Redhawks (16-11, 11-5 OVC) enter this contest as victors in seven of their last eight decisions, including a 73-61 road win at Lindenwood on Saturday. Marqueas Bell pumped in a career-best 25 points (on 8-of-10 shooting) in 28 minutes off the bench to guide Southeast Missouri.
Earlier this season against the Skyhawks, Luke Almodovar led the way with a game-high 22 points (including 6-for-10 from three-point range) while Braxton Stacker chipped in 14 points for the Redhawks.
