The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball opened the fourth quarter of Saturday's game at SIUE on a 10-0 run, but it was not enough as the Skyhawks fell to the Cougars, 62-52, at First Community Arena in Edwardsville. It was a slow first half for UT Martin as they scored just 14 points, including only five in the second quarter, and trailed 34-14 at the half. In the third quarter, the Skyhawks seemed to find their groove, scoring 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, but they still trailed by 16 at the end of the period. In the fourth, UT Martin got off to a hot start, opening the quarter on a 10-0 run, cutting the SIUE lead to just six. However, from that point on, they were outscored 9-3 and held to zero field goals for nearly the final four minutes of the contest. Kenley McCarn led UT Martin in the game with 15 points and three steals, while Sidni Middleton had 13 points and Grace Billington added 11. Zy Thompson finished the game with team-highs of 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
Kenley McCarn currently leads the Skyhawks with 15.9 points per game, while Zy Thompson and Sidni Middleton follow at 11.0 and 9.3, respectively. On the boards, Thompson leads UT Martin with 6.0 rebounds per game, while Brittani Wells leads in assists and steals at 3.6 and 1.8. As a team, the Skyhawks are averaging 63.7 points and 33.5 rebounds per game, while their opponents average 62.1 and 38.3. The Skyhawks have made a 3-point field goal in 538 consecutive games, a streak dating back to Feb. 3, 2009 against Austin Peay and ranking seventh, nationally.
For the 17th consecutive year, UT Martin is headed to the OVC Women's Basketball Championship, officially clinching a berth after Saturday's games. Head coach Kevin McMillan has now led his squad to the tournament in each of his 17 seasons at the helm. He boasts an impressive 23-11 (.676) record at the event and has led his team to 10 title games with four wins.
The Skyhawks currently have the 58th-best field goal percentage defense in the nation at 37.6-percent, while they rank 114th in the nation in steals per game at 9.5. Individually, Brittani Wells is 41st in the nation in minutes per game at 34.97, while Kenley McCarn is 43rd at 34.88.
Kenley McCarn has scored 10 or more points in 24 of the Skyhawks' 25 games this season. She is averaging 15.9 points on the season and has scored 10 or more points in 32 of her last 35 games.

Skyhawk guard Kenley McCarn has started her career on the right foot by scoring double figures in 80 of her 91 career games. Last season, she became just the 19th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and currently averages 15.5 points per game for her career. With 13 points at Morehead State, she officially became one of the Top 10 scorers in UT Martin history. She currently ranks 7th in program history with 1,439 career points, last passing the great Pat Head Summitt.
