
Big Nights From McCarn, Thompson Not Enough Tuesday Against SEMO

MARTIN, Tenn. – Despite Kenley McCarn and Zy Thompson combining for 34 points, it was ultimately not enough, as the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball fell, 62-52, to Southeast Missouri Tuesday night at the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center in Martin.
The Skyhawks started strong, shooting 50.0-percent in the first quarter to lead 18-15 after the first 10 minutes. From there, however, the rest of the game belonged to the Redhawks. Southeast Missouri outscored the Skyhawks, 19-10, in the second and 16-11 in the third, building a lead they would never lose. The Redhawks led by as many as 15 in the second half and never led by less than eight in the fourth quarter, despite being outscored 13-12 in the frame.
Southeast Missouri outshot UT Martin in the game, 38.6-percent to 32.1-percent, and outworked the Skyhawks on the glass by nearly double at 49-28. UT Martin did shoot 40.0-percent from 3-point range on the night at 6-for-15, but the Redhawks were just a touch better, going 9-for-20 for 45.0-percent. While Southeast Missouri committed more turnovers in the contest at 13-9, they were able to make up for it by outscoring UT Martin in points off turnovers, 16-10.
Kenley McCarn turned in a game-high 18 points Tuesday, while Zy Thompson notched her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Brittani Wells and Sidni Middleton followed Thompson with each scoring eight points on the night.
On Thursday, the Skyhawks travel to Little Rock for their final road game of the season. Tip-off from the Jack Stephens Center is scheduled for 5 p.m.
