MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of seven spring tournaments on the University of Tennessee at Martin golf schedule is set to take place this weekend as the Skyhawks will compete in the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz. for the eighth time in the past 11 seasons.
The event runs from Sunday, Feb. 15 through Tuesday, Feb. 17 and will feature a UT Martin lineup that includes John-Gregory Wilson, Grant Phillips, Drew Williams, Luke Caldwell and Bryce Harmon along with individual Jaden Morrell. The Skyhawks are one of 21 teams in the field, joining Air Force, Bucknell, Denver, Grand Canyon, Holy Cross, Idaho, tournament host Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Missouri State, NC State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Omaha, Penn, Richmond, Seton Hall, SIUE, South Dakota, South Dakota State and Utah Valley.
After this weekend, UT Martin resumes its spring campaign at the People's Golf Championship (March 12-14 in St. Simons Island, Ga.) before the Austin Peay Intercollegiate (March 23-24 in Dickson, Tenn.) rounds out the month of March. A busy stretch follows with the Racer Intercollegiate (April 6-7 in Paducah, Ky.), the fifth annual Carpenter/Chaney Classic (April 11 in Paris, Ky.) and the Bluegrass Collegiate (April 13-14 in Lexington, Ky.) to close out the Skyhawks' regular season.
For the first time ever, the Ohio Valley Conference Championship will be held in West Lafayette, Ind. as the 2026 event will occur on April 26-29 at the Ackerman-Allen Course at Purdue University.
UT Martin head coach Austin Swafford oversees a squad that was voted second in the OVC preseason poll released last month. The Skyhawks ranked second in the league in scoring average (286.5) during five fall tournaments – including runner-up finishes at the Grover Page Classic (24-under par on Sept. 15-16 in Memphis, Tenn.) and the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate (15-under par on Oct. 6-7 in Jonesboro, Ark.).
Caldwell was identified as an OVC Player to Watch after the senior ranked fifth in the OVC in stroke average (71.2) in the fall. Williams also tied for eighth in the OVC with a 71.9 scoring average during a strong fall season that included a team-best three top-10 finishes. Phillips (72.8 stroke average, two top-10 efforts), Luke Beadles (73.7, seven rounds of par or better) and Wilson (73.7, best fall score of any OVC golfer with a 62 in Round 2 of the Grover Page Classic) also join Caldwell and Williams as Skyhawks who competed in all 15 rounds during the fall.
Lucas Herring (73.8 scoring average in six rounds), Harmon (74.2 in nine rounds), Ian Lambert (74.5 in six rounds) and Morrell (78.2 in six rounds) will additionally look to make an impact for UT Martin down the stretch this spring.
