Thompson & Middleton Earn OVC Weekly Accolades

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Zy Thompson and Sidni Middleton of the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team were named as the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.
Zy Thompson nearly averaged a double-double on the week with 12 points and 11 rebounds against Western Illinois and 14 points and eight rebounds against Eastern Illinois. She shot 50.0-percent (8-16) from the floor on the week and went 10-for-12 at the free throw line including going 4-for-4 against Western Illinois. Against Eastern Illinois, she recorded a career-high four blocks.
Sidni Middleton averaged 14.0 points and nine rebounds per game last week, including a career-high tying 25 points against Western Illinois and a career-best nine rebounds in each game. Against Western Illinois, she was perfect at the free throw line, going 9-for-9.
Thompson currently averages 11.9 points per game on the season and team-highs of 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks, while Middleton averages 10.8 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and shoots 93.5-percent from the free throw line, the fifth-best percentage in the nation.
The Skyhawks will make the long trip to Morehead State to take on the Eagles in OVC play Thursday. Tip-off from Johnson Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT/5p.m. ET.
