MARTIN, Tenn. – The preseason accolades continue to come in for the University of Tennessee at Martin football program as its two returning starting cornerbacks JaMichael McGoy, Jr. and LaMarion Pierce garnered recognitions on the FCS Football Central Preseason All-American Teams.
The Skyhawk tandem combined to build one of the OVC-Big South Football Association's top secondaries for a four-peat championship squad. UT Martin led the country in both pass breakups (86) and passed defended (105) while ranking third in total interceptions (19).
McGoy earned his second All-American honor of the preseason after a standout junior campaign in which he led the OVC-Big South and set a single-season school record with 18 pass breakups. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native ranked second in the country with 21 passes defended after adding three interceptions to his gaudy PBU line. He rounded out his 2024 campaign with 43 tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble on the way to all-conference first team honors.
Pierce started the final eight games of the 2024 season in a breakout campaign. The Lewisburg, Tenn. native ranks as one of the team's top returning tacklers with 49 total stops last season while adding nine pass breakups and two interceptions to the back of his football card. His breakout performance came against Lindenwood where he tallied nine total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and four pass breakups to clinch a share of the program's fourth consecutive league title.
UT Martin opens the season on Thursday, Aug. 28 when traveling to Big 12 foe Oklahoma State. Fans can purchase their season tickets for a loaded five-game home slate at www.utmsports.com/tickets.
