MARTIN, Tenn. – Standout defensive back JaMichael McGoy, Jr. for the University of Tennessee at Martin has joined a list of the nation's elite after garnering a spot on the 2025 Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American Team.
All 13 FCS conferences and 54 schools are represented among 102 All-Americans, who are spread across three teams. McGoy is one of three players from the OVC-Big South Football Association as he joins defensive back Tim Coutras from Tennessee Tech on the second team while punter Gilbert Brown from Charleston Southern earned a spot on the third team.
A 2024 first-team all-conference selection, McGoy has steadily become one of the nation's top defensive backs. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native ranked third nationally with 1.5 pass breakups per game while leading the OVC-Big South with 18 pass breakups. The dynamic ballhawk also hauled in three interceptions – including one featured on SportsCenter Top 10 with a one-handed snag against nationally ranked New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
The 5-10 cornerback earned his second consecutive all-conference honor after tallying 43 total tackles and 3.0 TFLs as a junior. Arguably his best game came against Eastern Illinois when he recorded five pass breakups in the victory.
UT Martin opens the season on Thursday, Aug. 28 when traveling to Big 12 foe Oklahoma State. Fans can purchase their season tickets for a loaded five-game home slate at www.utmsports.com/tickets.
