MARTIN, Tenn. – Damien King, a 6-5, 195-pound wing out of Anderson, Ind., has signed with the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball program. King will be a true freshman next season for second-year head coach Jeremy Shulman.
"We are getting an absolute steal in Damien," Shulman said. "He chose to become a Skyhawk after entertaining several Division I offers. He is coming off a phenomenal high school career and is one of the top prospects in the basketball hotbed of Indiana – I absolutely can't wait to coach him for the next four years."
King averaged 22.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals per outing under head coach Donnie Bowling during his senior campaign at Anderson High School, guiding the Indians to the program's fourth consecutive Madison County championship and first top-five state ranking since 2009. A two-time Madison County Player of the Year, he claimed Prep Hoops Indiana Class 4A all-state third team accolades, Indiana Basketball Coaches Association "Supreme 15" honors and The Herald Bulletin Sports Boys Basketball Athlete of the Year award. He also was chosen for the Senior Top-60 Workout by Hoosier Basketball Magazine.
Known for plenty of high-scoring performances, King went off for 32 points and 10 rebounds to help AHS clinch the outright North Central Conference championship against Kokomo on his Senior Night. He also added 34 points and 10 boards in an early season triumph over Lapel and a career-best 41 points over George Washington. He also poured in a season-best 39 points during his junior season against Lawrence Central.
Last month, King showed out at the Madison County Rising Stars Game as he went off for 35 points and 11 rebounds while also sinking the game-winning layup to claim Most Valuable Player honors. He also was named to the 2025 Hoosier Gym All-Star Classic and is set to take part in the 7th Annual Prep Ball Stars Midwest Challenge tomorrow, featuring All-Star teams from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
As a junior, King averaged 23.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, helping AHS to a 19-6 record after shooting 60 percent (225-of-375) from the floor and 80 percent (111-for-138) from the free throw line.
King took part in the annual Indiana vs. Kentucky All-Star Game in the summer of 2024, helping his home state to the victory after he was the first AHS player to earn an invite to the game since 2006.
Seeing his first extensive action as a sophomore, King averaged 11.5 points while posting sizzling shooting lines of 77 percent overall (113-of-146), 53 percent from three-point land (16-for-30) and 85 percent (33-of-39) from the charity stripe.
For his four-year prep career, King was part of an Indian program that went 80-19 overall. He averaged 18 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals over 78 games while connecting on 78 percent of his free throw tries. His 1,402 career points ranked third in school history (behind a pair of Indiana Mr. Basketball recipients) and were the most for the program in 32 years. He also snared 500 rebounds to go with 117 assists and 143 steals.
On the AAU circuit, King starred on the All Indy Basketball Club, sponsored by 15-year NBA veteran George Hill.
King joins fellow freshmen Ama Sow (Montour HS/Dakar, Senegal), James Bass (Campbell HS/Dakar, Senegal) and Ty Price (Butler County HS/Morgantown, Ky.) in the 2025-26 signing class.
