BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the first time in University of Tennessee at Martin baseball history, a freshman has claimed Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors as Cameron Greene captured that award today.
Greene becomes the 15th Skyhawk to ever nab OVC Player of the Week accolades and just the third UT Martin freshman to secure an OVC weekly award (joining Pitchers of the Week Alex Boshers in 2010 and Matt Poteete in 2015).
Starting all five games this week, Greene hit .533 (8-for-15) with a .579 on-base percentage and 1.067 slugging percentage to help the Skyhawks go 4-1 on the week, including taking two of three against Ohio Valley Conference rival Southeast Missouri. The left-handed hitter scored 10 runs and had eight RBI's, crushing a pair of home runs with two doubles.
Greene had a trio of multi-hit games this week, tying a career-high with three base knocks during Friday's series-opening victory over Southeast Missouri. In that game, he reached base safely five times (three hits, two walks) to go along with a whopping five runs scored and a career-best three RBI's. He also equaled a career-high with three RBI's in the frontend of Tuesday's doubleheader against Union. He had four extra-base hits in a 10 at-bat span during the Union doubleheader and first game of the Southeast Missouri series, homering in the first and last contest while doubling twice in the Union series finale.
A 6-2, 185-pound shortstop, Greene has produced a slash line of .303/.390/.515 this spring. The Brentwood, Tenn. native accounts for five doubles, three homers, 13 RBI's and 15 runs scored in 21 games (19 starts) so far during his debut season at UT Martin.
The Skyhawks are back at it for five games this week, playing a split midweek series against Southern Illinois (home tomorrow, away on Wednesday) before heading to OVC foe Lindenwood for a three-game set on Friday through Sunday.
