
Phillips Achieves First Career Medalist Finish In The Indy At Arlington Tournament

RICHMOND, Ky. – A phenomenal day on the links for the University of Tennessee at Martin's Grant Phillips led to his first career victory as the sophomore earned top honors at The Indy At Arlington event, hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
A one-day, 36-hole event that was open to individuals only with no team scoring element, Phillips mastered The University Club at Arlington golf course today. The Marietta, Ga. native topped the 60-man field that included participants from Ball State, Bellarmine, Bowling Green, Centre, Eastern Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Morehead State, Pikeville and Xavier.
Phillips shot even-par (140) on the course that was playing at 6,709 yards. He carded a 67 in Round 1 and followed that with a 73 in Round 2, edging out Bellarmine's Kash Albarado and Eastern Kentucky's Isaac Meador by one stroke for the tournament championship.
Phillips birdied five of his first nine holes today and tacked on three more birdies in the final round. Overall, he led the field in par-4 scoring (4.00, E) while ranking third in birdies (eight), eighth in par-3 scoring (3.13, +1) and 12th in par-5 scoring (4.67, -1). He also owned the most pars (21) of the four Skyhawk participants in the event.
"I am super proud and happy for Grant," UT Martin head coach Austin Swafford said. "Any time you have a player get their first collegiate win, it's special. He hasn't had his best year but he's continued to work hard and work hard in the right areas. I'm excited for him that his hard work paid off today in a big way."
Luke Beadles finished 25th in the field with a 150 (+10), shooting matching 75's with two birdies apiece in each round. He was followed closely behind by Jaden Morrell (76-75, four total birdies) and John-Gregory Wilson (76-75, five combined birdies), who each shot a 151 (+11) to place 29th in the standings.
The Skyhawks return to action in nine days, competing in the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn. on March 31 through April 1.
