
Skyhawks Travel To Georgia State For Weekend Clash

MARTIN, Tenn.- With the recent weather causing the cancellation of the home-opening series against Akron, the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will head to the Peach State for three games against Sun Belt foe Georgia State.

Game 1 from Atlanta, Ga. is set for noon on Friday, Feb. 21 with Game 2 on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m. and Game 3 on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. All game times are listed as CST.

UT Martin (2-1) opened up the season with a series win over the defending SouthWestern Athletic Conference champion Florida A&M Rattlers. The Skyhawk offense was led by TJ Grines (.400 batting average with team-highs of five runs scored and four stolen bases), Brody Capps (team-best four RBI's) and freshman Jordan Hudson (team-high .455 batting average). On the mound, Drake Bayles and Mason Stropshire each earned victories while Kaleb Baskin posted a save. The trio of UT Martin starting pitchers (Brandon King, Jacob Sitton, Bayles) conceded just six hits while combining for a 1.80 ERA.

Coming off a 25-win season last spring, Georgia State (3-0) took down Belmont in a series sweep which saw the Panthers score 26 runs against the Bruins. Jesse Donohoe hit .455 (5-for-11) with four extra-base hits to lead the Georgia State offense while the Panther pitching staff struck out 32 batters with a 4.33 ERA in 27 innings of work.
