
Skyhawks Begin OVC Road Trip Through Illinois Tomorrow Against SIUE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The final two-game road trip of the 2024-25 campaign is set for this week as the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad pays a visit to SIUE tomorrow. Tipoff time from First Community Arena in Edwardsville, Ill. is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (10-15, 6-8 OVC) have won four matchups in a row against the Cougars dating back to the end of the 2022-23 season. That winning streak includes an 85-82 triumph at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center back on Jan. 18 as UT Martin connected on 54.9 percent (28-for-51) of its field goal attempts - its highest success rate against a NCAA Division I opponent in 2024-25.
Vladimer Salaridze (16 points), Josué Grullon (14), Matija Žužić (12) and Tarence Guinyard (11) each scored in double figures earlier this season against SIUE while the duo of Carlos Cortijo and Afan Trnka each had nine points and a game-high five assists. The Skyhawks shot 42.9 percent (12-of-28) from beyond the three-point arc and outscored the Cougars by a 32-18 margin in the paint.
UT Martin is coming off an 81-70 victory on Saturday against Western Illinois, completing the season sweep of its Ohio Valley Conference rival. The Skyhawks were led in scoring by Guinyard's 20 points while Salaridze (18) and Filip Radaković (11) additionally reached double digits in the scoring column for UT Martin, who only trailed for 74 seconds of clock time.
SIUE, who was part of a three-way tie atop the OVC standings before Southeast Missouri defeated Little Rock on Tuesday, enters this contest as winners of three straight decisions. The Cougars (17-8, 10-4 OVC) dispatched Tennessee Tech by a 75-58 margin last Thursday, shooting 52.4 percent (33-for-63) and outrebounding the host Golden Eagles by a 40-27 margin in the process. OVC leading scorer Ray'Sean Taylor, who dropped a game-high 23 points against the Skyhawks on Jan. 18, posted 28 points (7-of-10 shooting from three-point range), five assists and three steals while Brian Taylor had 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting in the win over Tennessee Tech.
