Thompson Named OVC Newcomer of the Week For Second Time

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Zy Thompson of the University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball team was named as the OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday.
The redshirt sophomore set career-highs in both games last week while averaging a double-double and shooting an impressive 73.1-percent from the floor, including going 10-for-11 at Arkansas State. She finished the week averaging 23.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists.
Against Lipscomb, Thompson set new career marks of 21 points and 13 rebounds, then eclipsed both two days later at Arkansas State with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Against the Red Wolves, she led the Skyhawks in all five major statistical categories with three assists, three blocks and three steals.
The Skyhawks return to the Kathleen & Tom Elam Center Sunday to host Champion Christian at 2 p.m.
