BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the fourth consecutive week to begin his collegiate career, University of Tennessee at Martin forward Matas Deniusas was named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.
Already the owner of the third-most OVC Freshman of the Week awards in school history (only trailing Marquis Weddle's six in 2007-08 and Myles Taylor's five in 2011-12), Deniusas is the first Skyhawk recipient to win this accolade four times in a row.
Deniusas topped UT Martin in scoring for the third time in the last five games in the Skyhawks' lone action last week – a 75-50 home triumph over Brescia last Tuesday. He tossed in 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting (71.4 percent) to go along with five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots in only 17 minutes of playing time.
The 6-9, 220-pound rookie has helped UT Martin to a 5-2 record so far in 2025-26, which is the program's third-best seven-game start to a season in its NCAA Division I Era (since 1992).
Hailing from Vilnius, Lithuania, Deniusas currently ranks seventh in the OVC in free throw percentage (.806), 12th in scoring (13.1 points per game), 12th in blocked shots (0.9 per contest) and 19th in rebounding (5.1 per outing).
The Skyhawks are back in action tomorrow for their annual Education Day contest against Charleston Southern. Tipoff time from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is scheduled for 11 a.m.
