Skyhawks Round Out Lengthy Home Stretch This Weekend Against OVC Rival SIUE

MARTIN, Tenn. – A four-match homestand for the University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team wraps up this weekend as the Skyhawks collide against Ohio Valley Conference foe SIUE. Start times for the two-match series is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 as both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
UT Martin is 9-5 all-time against the Cougars inside Skyhawk Fieldhouse and is 7-2 in its last nine overall meetings against SIUE. During last season's series in Edwardsville, Ill., Kylie Surratt led UT Martin with 24 kills (3.43 per set) while Kristin Phillips hit a scorching .436 (19 kills against only two errors) in 39 swings. Kayla Bryant has also performed well against the Cougars in her career as she has produced 37 combined kills in her last three outings against SIUE.
In last weekend's split against Western Illinois, the Skyhawks were led by Bryant's 29 kills (3.22 per set) and 34 digs (3.78 per set) as the senior outside hitter from Louisville, Ky. has now amassed three consecutive double-doubles. Ava Peters (73 assists, 22 digs, team-best seven blocks) and Abby Freund (42 digs, 4.67 per set) additionally guided UT Martin to its first OVC victory of the early league slate.
Bryant remains atop the OVC in service aces, ranking 26th in NCAA Division I volleyball with 0.50 aces per set. Peters' 8.33 assists per set in OVC play ranks fifth in the league while Freund's 3.99 digs per set average is the fifth-best mark in the conference.
SIUE is coming off a busy week, winning a midweek decision at Lindenwood before falling twice against league-leading Little Rock at home. Kyndia Smith paced the Cougar offense with 40 kills (4.00 per set) on a .250 attack percentage while Olivia Hogan's 50 digs (5.00 per set) led SIUE's defensive attack. Vienna Elliott tops the OVC in blocks per set (1.13) for a Cougar defense that ranks second in the league in opponent attack percentage (.197) and opponent kills (11.72 per set).
