Jaren Van Winkle Claims First Big South-OVC Specialist of the Week Award

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a strong performance against North Alabama, University of Tennessee at Martin football place kicker and punter Jaren Van Winkle was named the Big South-OVC Football Association Specialist of the Week.
A native of Clay, Ala., Van Winkle scored 11 points for the Skyhawks in a comeback victory against UNA. He booted a 38-yard field goal attempt to put UT Martin on the board in the first quarter before splitting the uprights with a career-long 46-yard field goal attempt as time expired in the first half. Additionally, he converted 5-of-5 point after attempts.
In the punt game, he was able to pin the Lions back inside their own 20-yard line on three occasions while boasting a 39.5 yards per punt average in six attempts. His longest punt of the game came fourth quarter when he booted an attempt 54 yards down to the UNA 13.
This marks the first weekly award for the Skyhawks this season.
UT Martin returns to action this weekend when playing host to Missouri State for Community Night with kickoff slated for 6 p.m.
