
Skyhawks Set For Home Opener Against SIU

Three days after opening the season at North Alabama, the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team will play its first home match this Sunday, Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. against Southern Illinois.

In the first match of the season, Izzy Patterson and Peyton Cook led the team in shots with two each while goalkeeper Mac Titus made five stops against 11 shots from the Lions. The Skyhawks (0-0-1) launched five shots on goal coming from Cook (two), Brooke Kala (one), Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles (one) and Unni Wolf (one).

The Salukis (0-0-1) are coming off a 2-2 draw at Jackson State on Thursday where they posted a match-high 13 shots (eight on goal). Graduate McKensey Bunch was responsible for both Southern Illinois goals as she rifled in her first in the 11th minute and her second in the 81st minute. Ashlyn Henrie (assist on first goal) and Quinn Sowders (assist on second goal) picked up their first points of the season.

UT Martin has battled the Salukis only one previous time when the two met at Skyhawk Field in 2021. UT Martin secured the shutout win by a 2-0 margin as Makayla Robinson scored her first collegiate goal in the 59th minute.
