EDWARDSVILLE. Ill. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team could not sustain an early lead on the road Saturday at SIUE and fell to the Cougars, 2-1, at Korte Stadium in Edwardsville.

Unni Wolf put the Skyhawks ahead just 13 minutes in when she scored her team-high third goal of the season on assists from Peyton Cook and Addy McCleary. Cook now leads UT Martin in assists with four.

Just minutes into the second half, Claire Nieroda, the OVC leader in goals, found the back of the net for the eighth time this season to pull the Cougars level at 1-1. As the match wound down, the Skyhawks committed a foul in the box, sending Nieroda to the penalty spot where she scored for the ninth time this season to give her team the 2-1 win.

McCleary and Nasti Tanninen led the Skyhawks with two shots each in the match, while goalkeeper Mac Titus made four saves.

UT Martin returns home to Skyhawk Soccer Field Thursday to host Morehead State at 6 p.m.
