
UT MARTIN MEN’S BASKETBALL TO FACE NO. 3 SEED MOREHEAD STATE IN OVC SEMIFINALS ON FRIDAY EVENING

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team will square off against Morehead State in the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Championship semifinals on Friday, March 8. Tipoff from the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. is set for 9:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
The No. 2 seed Skyhawks (21-10, 14-4 OVC) earned the double bye into the league's Final Four after clinching the program's second OVC regular season championship. UT Martin will face one of the three co-champions of the 2023-24 OVC regular season in third-seeded Morehead State (24-8), who defeated No. 6 seed SIUE by a 78-63 margin during Thursday's quarterfinal round. OVC Player of the Year Riley Minix led the Eagles with 20 points and 10 rebounds while fellow All-OVC first teamer Jordan Lathon (17 points), Kalil Thomas (15 points) and Eddie Ricks III (11) also scored in double figures against the Cougars.
The Skyhawks split with Morehead State during the regular season, falling 84-66 in Morehead, Ky. on Jan. 18 before defeating the Eagles by an 88-82 margin at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Feb. 17. Jordan Sears averaged 24.5 points per game while sinking 46.2 percent (6-for-13) of his three-point tries while Jacob Crews averaged 18.5 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per outing against Morehead State in 2023-24.
This matchup will be UT Martin's fifth all-time meeting against the Eagles in the OVC Championship tournament. Morehead State is 3-1 against the Skyhawks in the OVC postseason but UT Martin won the last outing as the No. 2 seed Skyhawks downed the No. 3 seed Eagles by an 83-70 margin in the 2016 semifinals in Nashville, Tenn.
