MARTIN, Tenn. – The first of seven spring tournaments for the University of Tennessee at Martin golf program takes place on Feb. 19-20 as the Skyhawks will take part in the WGV Collegiate at the King & Bear Golf Course in St. Augustine, Fla.
UT Martin will visit seven different states during its spring schedule, heading from the Sunshine State to the Gulf Coast Collegiate (Feb. 26-27 in New Orleans, La.), the People's Golf Championship (March 7-9 in St. Simons Island, Ga.), the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate (March 18-19 in Springfield, Mo.), the Carpenter/Chaney Classic (April 1-2 in Paducah, Ky.), the Mountaineer Invitational (April 15-16 in Bridgeport, W.Va.) and the Ohio Valley Conference Championships (April 21-24 in Muscle Shoals, Ala.).
The Skyhawks will be in action for the first time in almost four months as they last competed on Oct. 23-24 at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga. That marked UT Martin's third top-three tournament finish (in five attempts) of the fall season. The Skyhawks won the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn. with an event record score of 841 (-23), igniting a three-tournament run where the program shot a remarkable 62-under par over nine rounds.
UT Martin will look to carry over its fall success into this semester as the Skyhawks are one of 20 schools in the WGV Collegiate field, which includes teams or individuals from Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Belmont, Eastern Illinois, host Eastern Kentucky, Florida A&M, IUPUI, Jacksonville State, Lindenwood, Morehead State, North Carolina A&T, Northern Kentucky, Notre Dame, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, South Dakota, Southern Indiana, Stetson and Youngstown State.
Opened in 2000, the King & Bear Golf Course is named after its designers – golf legends Arnold "The King" Palmer and Jack "Golden Bear" Nicklaus. Ranked as the 16th-best course in Florida by Golf Pass in 2023, the course will play at 6,952 yards for the first two rounds before extending to 7,055 yards in Round 3.
The weather forecast for St. Augustine calls for morning showers and a high of 58 degrees during 36 holes on Monday, followed by sunny conditions with a high of 63 degrees for Tuesday's third and final round.
UT Martin's lineup will consist of Dax Isbell (70.7 stroke average in 2023-24), Jacob Uehlein (72.5), Grant Phillips (73.5), Ethan Ray (73.7) and Luke Caldwell (75.1). Bryson Morrell (72.0) will also take part in the tournament as an individual.
