Skyhawks Travel To OVC Foe Southern Indiana For Last Matchup Of 2024 Calendar Year

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin makes just its second trip to Southern Indiana in the program's NCAA Division I Era (since 1992) when it tips off against its second Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball rival of the season. Tipoff from Liberty Arena in Evansville, Ind. is set for 3:30 p.m. tomorrow on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks are 2-1 against the Screaming Eagles since the latter joined the OVC in 2022 but both of those triumphs came at home. Because of a scheduling quirk last season, UT Martin only faced Southern Indiana once and that game took place in the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
The Skyhawks (4-8, 0-1 OVC) are looking to bounce back after another nailbiter on Thursday, falling 70-69 in overtime at Morehead State. After halftime, UT Martin did not trail until the eventual game-winning shot was made with 15 seconds remaining in overtime as the Eagles ended the contest with six unanswered points.
Reigning National Player of the Week Tarence Guinyard dialed up 17 points, topping the Skyhawks in scoring for the fourth consecutive game. Matija Žužić chipped in 12 points while Vladimer Salaridze (five rebounds, career-best four assists) and Afan Trnka (five assists) both provided 10 points apiece for UT Martin.
Alongside leading scorer Josué Grullon (16.5 points per game) and Guinyard (averaging 22.8 points over his last five games), Žužić has been hot lately for the Skyhawks. The junior is averaging 14.8 points and 6.0 rebounds while connecting on 43.8 percent (14-of-32) of his three-point tries over the last three games.
The Screaming Eagles (6-5, 1-0 OVC) are coming off a 77-75 home triumph over Tennessee State on Thursday. OVC assists leader Jack Campion nailed a go-ahead 10-foot jumper with 1.9 seconds remaining while Damoni Harrison (19 points), Stephen Olowoniyi (18 points) and Jayland Randall (15 points) each had big scoring nights. Southern Indiana tops the OVC in field goal percentage (.469), three-point field goal percentage (.389) and free throw percentage (.719) so far in 2024-25.
