MARTIN, Tenn. – First-year University of Tennessee at Martin head men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman has added incoming freshman Ama Sow as his first 2025-26 newcomer as part of National Signing Day festivities.
A 6-11, 220-pound forward, Sow was born in The Gambia but hails from Dakar, Senegal. He came to the United States in January 2022 and immediately established a reputation as a top-five prospect in the Pittsburgh area by the Pittsburgh Sporting News.
Sow prepped under head coach Bill Minear at Montour High School in McKees Rocks, Pa., earning WPIAL 4A first team all-section accolades as a junior. Sow helped the Spartans to their first sectional championship since 2012, averaging 16.2 points, 14.5 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per outing in 2023-24.
Last season, Sow pumped in 30 points in a victory over Knoch and tallied 20 points with 13 rebounds against Avonworth to clinch the sectional title. He also collected a triple-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks against East Allegheny.
Sow additionally registered 21 points and 20 rebounds against West Mifflin while posting monster games of double-doubles against Bethel Park (14 points, 17 rebounds), Quaker Valley (18 points, 15 rebounds) and North Hills (19 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks) during a dominant junior season.
Sow also shined on the prestigious NIKE EYBL circuit, playing for the All-Ohio squad.
"We are just so excited to sign Ama and welcome him to the UT Martin family," Shulman said. "Ama is an absolute 10 out of 10 kid. On the court, he is a big wing with tons of potential and his work ethic will help him reach his ceiling."
Sow is the first National Signing Day addition in the Skyhawk career of Shulman, who was hired as the 13th head coach in program history on March 27.
