
Skyhawk Cross Country Primed For 2024 OVC Cross Country Championship On Friday

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin cross country teams are set to host its first Ohio Valley Conference Championships since 2014 on Friday, Nov. 1 at Skyhawk Runway Trail. The women's 6k will take place at 9 a.m. and the men's 8k will follow at 10 a.m.

Friday marks the first time since 2004 that UT Martin has hosted the event in west Tennessee. The event is free to the public and the course will be located in the area behind the Elam Center.

The Skyhawk men finished in fifth last season while the women's team placed seventh at Eagle Trace in Morehead, Ky. Sam Shuman was named to the All-OVC first-team last year as he finished fifth while Luke Johnson finished with All-OVC second-team accolades after an 11th place finish. Maggie Roy narrowly missed out on all-conference honors with a solid performance and 16th place during last year's competition.

Roy has been stellar this season for UT Martin with a season-best 11th place finish at the UTM OVC Preview and a 12th place finish at the Angel Mounds Invitational which set a new personal best of 22:09.2 in the 6k for the junior. Freshmen Reese Settle (PR of 22:07.0 in the 6k) and Danielle Mudd (PR of 22:32.6 in the 6k) have had a great debut year for the Skyhawks.

Freshman Keagan Enicks led UT Martin in the regular season finale at the Angel Mounds Invitational with a time of 24:53.7 in the 8k while Brady Millikin finished with a PR of 24:57.3 in the event.

Friday will mark the 64th OVC men's championship, as the first one was held in 1962; the women's championship will be determined for the 46th time this year.

The OVC Athletes and Freshmen of the Year, which are determined by coaches vote, will be announced today. The Coach of the Year, Athletes of the Championship and All-OVC honors will be presented following Friday's Championship.
