
Skyhawk Soccer Set For First Round Duel With Morehead State In The OVC Tournament

MARTIN, Tenn.- The University of Tennessee at Martin will make its way up to Evansville, Ind. on Thursday, Oct. 31 to take on Morehead State at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Soccer Championships.

This marks the eighth straight appearance in the OVC Tournament for the Skyhawks (4-10-3, 3-6 OVC) who captured the No. 8 seed at the conclusion of the regular season. UT Martin holds an all-time record of 11-17-2 in the OVC Soccer Championships, winning the tournament crown in 2011 and 2012 while appearing in the championship match six times.

As a team, the Skyhawks lead the OVC in shots (209) and shots on goal (104). UT Martin also ranks among the league's best in corners (101, second), saves (103, second) and save percentage (.778, fourth). Senior midfielder Izzy Patterson leads the team in points with 12 (four goals, four assists) and has fired off 54 shots (third in the OVC). Peyton Cook sits in the top-five of both shots (46, fourth) and shots on goal (27, third) in the conference while Makayla Robinson has scored four goals including two game-winners on the season.

Morehead State (7-6-5, 4-3-2 OVC) comes into the OVC Championship ready to defend their tournament title as the No. 4 seed. The Eagles finished the regular season on a three-match unbeaten streak and are second in the conference in scoring average (1.11). Hedda Ornberg (seven goals, third in the OVC) leads Morehead State offensively while goalkeeper Lilly Bailey has posted three shutouts with a .803 save percentage (third in the OVC).

The lone regular season matchup saw the Eagles defeat the Skyhawks 1-0 on the road from a Kamryn Baquero goal in the 39th minute. The last time the two met in the postseason was during the 2022 OVC Tournament where Morehead State advanced to the semifinals via a shootout.
