Jaylon Sharpe Named Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a standout performance in a win over Eastern Illinois, University of Tennessee at Martin linebacker Jaylon Sharpe was named Big South-OVC Football Association Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sharpe keyed a UT Martin defense which helped the squad to its fourth straight victory and forced three turnovers in a win over the visiting Panthers. The linebacker tallied eight tackles, returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown and added a pass breakup and quarterback hurry in a 52-17 victory. The pick-six came midway through the fourth quarter and was the first on his career.
Sharpe leads the Big South-OVC and ranks 16th nationally with 11.0 tackles for loss. The weekly award also marks the first of his career.
UT Martin hits the road for its next two contests beginning with a matchup at Tennessee State on Saturday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
