
Skyhawk Rifle Falls By Slim Margin In Home Opener Against Morehead State

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin outscored visiting Morehead State in smallbore and set a season-high in air rifle scoring today but the Eagles were able to hang on for a 4,656-4,650 win at Skyhawk Rifle Range.
UT Martin edged out Morehead State by a single point (2,304 to 2,303) in smallbore and proceeded to post a strong 2,346 tally in air rifle. However, the Eagles came away with 2,353 points to claim the win.
Three separate Skyhawks combined for four career-high scores today. Aubrey Chenoweth paced UT Martin with a career-best 590 points in air rifle while freshman Liam Tegeler established career-high points in both smallbore (577) and air rifle (583). Freshman teammate Rachel Haines additionally earned a career-best 552 points in smallbore.
Freshman Sadie Palfrey topped the Skyhawks in aggregate scoring (1,170 points) and smallbore points (581) for the second consecutive match. Her 589 in air rifle trailed Chenoweth by a single point for the team lead as she fired a team-best 77 combined centers.
In smallbore, Joey Kovach (574) and Alayna Walther (572) were UT Martin's final two countable scores alongside Palfrey and Tegeler. Chenoweth (543) was the final member of the Skyhawk lineup while Jesse Chamberlain (season-best 558) and Jeffrey Bourassa (541) shot as individuals.
Kovach's season-high 584 joined Chenoweth, Palfrey and Tegeler as countable scores in UT Martin's air rifle lineup, which also included Walther (573 points). Haines managed a 566 and Bourassa was responsible for a 558 as individuals in the event.
Trailing Palfrey in aggregate scoring was Tegeler, who earned a season-best 1,160 aggregate points. He was followed by Kovach (1,158), Walther (1,145), Chenoweth (1,133), Haines (1,118) and Bourassa (1,099) as Skyhawks who competed in both smallbore and air rifle disciplines.
A busy weekend is in store for UT Martin as the Skyhawks will travel to Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 26 before heading to Murray, Ky. for a neutral-site matchup against Jacksonville State on Sunday, Oct. 27.
