1/3/2024 3:11:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball returns home following a three-game road swing to play host to Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois on Thursday, Dec. 4. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is slated for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks (5-8, 2-0 OVC) enter the contest riding a season-long three-game winning streak after completing a road sweep of OVC foes Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech last weekend. During the team's current winning streak, the Skyhawks have limited opponents to a shooting average of just 36.5 percent from the field while winning the battle of the boards by a +10.4 margin per game.
Last weekend UT Martin had four players who averaged in double figures – led by OVC Freshman of the Week Kenley McCarn who averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the weekend sweep. Both Lexi Rubel (14.0 ppg, 11.5 rpg) and Anaya Brown (12.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg) averaged double-doubles for the two games while Norah Clark also chipped in 13.5 points per game.
UT Martin has responded well to its return to OVC action after posting a 173-53 record in league play since the 2010-11 season. The Skyhawks have also played well at home during that span, winning 83.3 percent (100-20) of their games in the Elam Center against league foes.
Eastern Illinois (4-10, 1-0 OVC) picked up a win in its lone OVC matchup of last week, knocking off SIUE 80-74 to snap a four-game losing streak. The Panthers are led by reigning OVC Player of the Week Macy McGlone who chipped in a dominant double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds while adding five blocks in the road win. For the season, McGlone ranks third in the OVC in scoring (16.9 ppg) while ranking first in rebounding (10.8 rpg). Guard Miah Monahan also averages in double figures, scoring 12.1 points per game while dishing out 4.8 assists per game (ranking second in the OVC).
Thursday's contest marks the 64th meeting between the two programs with UT Martin holding a 40-23 series advantage. After the Skyhawks won five consecutive games between the 2019-21 seasons, the Panthers have won three of the last four meetings – including a season sweep of last year's matchups.
The contest will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ while local listeners can tune into the Skyhawk Sports Network to hear Chris Brinkley (play-by-play) and Davis Gregory (analyst) call the action live from courtside. Games are broadcast on WCMT "Talk and News You Can Use!" with simulcasts on 1410 AM, 100.5 FM, 92.7 FM, 96.1 FM, 99.7 FM and 103.3 FM.
