
SKYHAWK TRACK AND FIELD SET TO COMPETE AT 2023 OVC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

MARTIN, Tenn. – After a regular season of preparation, the University of Tennessee at Martin track and field programs will head south this week to Birmingham, Ala. with medals in sight at the 2023 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships. The championships will be contested at Birmingham CrossPlex with action beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 22 and wrapping up on Thursday, Feb. 23.
On Wednesday the meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Heptathlon, followed by the Field Events starting at noon. The running events are scheduled to start at 2:40 p.m. with the 60-meter Hurdle prelims and ending with the Distance Medley Relay at 5:50 p.m.
On Thursday the meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Pentathlon, while the Field events will get underway at 11:00 a.m. with the High Jump. The running events will begin with the mile at 12:30 p.m. and will conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 3:45 p.m.
The awards presentation is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Championship Podium History

Championship Podium History
- Brady Fry is a highly decorated performer during his Skyhawk career, earning three OVC Indoor medals. The sprinter won the 2019 OVC Indoor Championship in the men's 60m hurdles while finishing second at both the 2020 and 2022 championships.
- Will Cahill earned a runner-up finish at the 2022 OVC Indoor Championship with a time of 8:20.21 in the men's 3000m.
- Hawken Foote earned a third-place finish at the 2022 OVC Indoor Championship in the men's 800m finals with a time of 1:54.03.
- The Skyhawk men's distance medley relay team of Cole Davis, John Collin Askew, Andre Brown and Luke McNair won the 2022 OVC Indoor Championship with a time of 10:05.75.
- Men's 4x400m team which includes current Skyhawks Maluke Cluver, John Collin Askew, Andre Brown and Hawken Foote finished third at the 2022 OVC Indoor Championship with a time of 3:20.17.
- JaDerrika Welch-Fields had the second-best high jump mark in the OVC this season with a distance of 1.67 meters at the Redhawks Open.
- MJ Jackson ranked second in the OVC with a long jump mark of 7.54 meters at the Bellarmine Open. Jackson also had the third-best distance of 15.03 meters in the men's triple jump.
- Will Cahill ranks third in the men's 5k with a school-record mark of 14:30.09 at the USA Jaguar Invitational. He also sits fourth in the OVC in the men's 3k with a time of 8:18.20 at the Bellarmine Open.
- Luke McNair posted the fifth fastest mile time in the OVC with a mark of 4:10.79 at PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic. McNair also has the seventh fastest time in the 3k, posting a time of 8:24.86 at the Bellarmine Open.
- Janay Chapman posted the seventh fastest OVC time in the women's 200m with a time of 25.19 at the Bellarmine Open.
- John Collin Askew ranked seventh in the OVC in the men's 400m with a time of 49.62 at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic.
- Rita Eimer posted the seventh fastest 800m time in the OVC with a mark of 2:18.36 at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic.
- Ja'Kobe Ward enters the championship field with the seventh fastest OVC time in the 60m hurdles with a mark of 8.35 seconds at Hoosier Hills.
- Lydia Tankersley enters the championship ranked eighth in the league with a mile time of 5:00.84 set at Hoosier Hills.
- Brady Fry ranks eighth in the OVC in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.37 seconds at the Redhawks Open.
- Bella Gheesling ranked eighth in the OVC in the women's pentathlon with 2412 points at the Principia College Relays.
- Hudson Hall ranked eighth in the OVC in the men's mile with a time of 4:15.92 at Hoosier Hills.
- Women's DMR team of Rita Eimer, Lilia Alvarez, Lydia Tankersley and Maggie Roy posted the second best OVC time with a mark of 12:38.23 at the Bellarmine Open.
- Men's DMR team of Hudson Hall, Hawken Foote, Jack Blyth and Will Cahill posted the third-best OVC time of 10:23.88 at the Bellarmine Open.
- Men's 4x400m relay team of Khalid White, John Collin Askew, Maluke Cluver and Brady Fry have the sixth fastest time in the OVC of 3:23.16 at the Bellarmine Open.
- Women's 4x400m relay team of Janay Chapman, Kayla Jackson, JaDerrika Welch-Fields and Renee Blades posted the eighth fastest time in the OVC at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic.
- Brady Fry, a senior from Murfreesboro, Tenn. broke the UT Martin record in 55m hurdles at the Redhawks Open last week. Fry posted a time of 7.77 seconds which beat out his own previous school record by 0.01 seconds at the same venue back in 2022.
- Luke McNair, a graduate student from Bartlett, Tenn., set a program record in the men's mile at the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic. He crossed the finish line in 4:10.79 and bested the program's previous school record by 2.8 seconds.
- Will Cahill, a sophomore from Lexington, Ky., broke the program's 5000m meter record at the USA Jaguar Invitational. His time of 14:30.09 broke the previous record set back in 2022 by seven seconds.
- MJ Jackson, a junior from St. Louis, Mo. set a pair of school records this season in back-to-back weeks. At the Redhawks Invite to open the season, he set a new benchmark in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.03 meters. Then at the Bellarmine Open the following weekend, she set a new record in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.54 meters.
- Janay Chapman, a junior from Scarborough, Ontario, broke set a new program record in the women's 55m dash at the Redhawks Invite in the season opener. She crossed the finish line in 7.19 seconds.
