OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SPOTLIGHTS SKYHAWK MEN’S HOOPS FOR FIRST ESPN “WILD CARD” GAME OF 2023-24 SEASON

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the third straight season, the University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball program will be showcased on the ESPN family of networks as part of the Ohio Valley Conference's annual television package.
Today, the league announced that the Skyhawks' Thursday, Jan. 4 home OVC opener against Eastern Illinois will kick off the league's ESPN linear basketball schedule and will be aired live from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center at 8 p.m. The UT Martin and Eastern Illinois women's basketball game will be pushed up to 5 p.m. to accommodate the nationally televised contest.
For the second consecutive year, the OVC is utilizing a "Wild Card" selection process where selections are determined and announced approximately two weeks before the competition date to ensure the best matchups.
Overall, 10 OVC games are set to air on the ESPN linear family of networks in 2023-24. The league also announced today that its second wild card slot of Jan. 13 will be filled by Morehead State at SIUE. Men's matchups for Jan. 25, Feb. 8, Feb. 10 and Feb. 29 will be announced at later dates while a women's basketball contest will also air on ESPNU on Feb. 22. The two OVC Championship semifinal matchups on March 8 will be carried on ESPNU while the March 9 OVC Championship final will be broadcasted live on ESPN2.
Last season, the Skyhawks' Feb. 23 home game against Tennessee State was chosen as an OVC wild card selection. It marked the first nationally televised men's basketball game from the Elam Center since Dec. 28, 2017 and the first on an ESPN linear station since Jan. 21, 2016.
