
DAYLAN DOTSON NAMED FINALIST FOR BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD

MARTIN, Tenn. – Stats Perform has announced that University of Tennessee at Martin defensive end Daylan Dotson is one of 30 finalists for the 2023 Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the national defensive player of the year in Division I FCS college football and presented by FedEx Ground.
The Buchanan Award, first presented in 1995 and in its 29th season, is named for legendary defensive lineman Junious "Buck" Buchanan, who starred at Grambling State as part of his Hall of Fame career. Past recipients include Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis, Jared Allen and Arthur Moats.
All 13 FCS leagues, comprised from 15 conferences overall, are represented by a Buck Buchanan Award finalist. The winner, to be selected by a national voting panel, will be announced at the FCS National Awards Banquet on Jan. 6 in Frisco, Texas – the eve of the FCS championship game.
Dotson, a native of Savannah, Ga., became a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award after earning a spot on the preseason watch list. He lived up to his preseason billing by tallying 51 total tackles and adding 19.5 tackles for loss which ranked fourth nationally while accumulating 82 yards of loss. Along with his work in the defensive backfield, he also registered 7.0 sacks, 17 quarterback hurries, seven pass breakups, a forced fumble and a recovery.

A first-place vote was worth five points, a second-place vote four points, a third-place vote three points, a fourth-place vote two points and a fifth-place vote one point. The final number is the combined point total.
