SCANLON AND MOTT STAY HOT AS UT MARTIN SPLITS DAY ONE OF SKYHAWK BEACH INVITATIONAL

MARTIN, Tenn. – The No. 1 duo of Karen Scanlon and Dylan Mott went undefeated as the University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team squared off against Liberty (won 5-0) and Tulane (lost 4-1) on the opening day of the Skyhawk Beach Invitational.
The reigning Ohio Valley Conference Pair of the Week, Scanlon and Mott posted a 21-18, 21-19 victory over Liberty this morning, helping extend UT Martin's winning streak out to a program-record seven matches. The Skyhawk pair followed that with an impressive 14-21, 21-18, 15-13 triumph over the top tandem from Tulane, who is currently ranked 21st in the American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll.

UT Martin began the two-day Skyhawk Beach Invitational with a convincing win over Liberty. Kayla Carrell and Addison Conley won their 10th straight decision (21-13, 21-16) at No. 4 while UT Martin's No. 5 team of Brooke Kuball and Addy Vaughn made short work of the opposition with a 21-11, 21-12 triumph.
At No. 2, Kambree Lucas and Hannah Phillips generated the clinching point following a 21-12, 21-14 victory. Haeleigh Paulino and Logan Wallick accounted for their seventh consecutive win (21-15, 24-22) at No. 3 before Scanlon and Mott completed the sweep.
The Skyhawks (8-3) battled in the nightcap but ultimately came up just short. Carrell/Conley fell 21-13, 21-14 out of the No. 4 position before Kuball/Vaughn dropped a tightly contested 21-19, 21-13 decision at No. 5. Wallick/Paulino fell 21-14, 21-12 at No. 3 while Lucas/Phillips (lost 23-21, 21-16) put up a fight at No. 2.
Scanlon and Mott then dialed up their come-from-behind victory for their seventh win in the last eight tries.
UT Martin is back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Skyhawk Beach Invitational. UT Martin plays the final two matches of the event, clashing against Missouri State at 3 p.m. and Ottawa at 5 p.m. Prior to the Missouri State match, the Skyhawks will hold a Senior Day ceremony to honor the career contributions of Conley, Scanlon and Phillips.
