MARTIN, Tenn. – A lot has happened in the last 12 months for the University of Tennessee at Martin football team. This time last year the Skyhawks would be preparing for a Week 3 matchup in an abbreviated and altered 2020-21 spring campaign before posting one of the best seasons in program history in the fall of 2021 which featured an OVC regular season championship while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division I FCS Championship.
This March and April the Skyhawks are looking forward to a return to normality which features growth of both body and mind through a spring of development. UT Martin began its spring practice schedule this evening with its first of 15 official practices at Hardy Graham Stadium.

"It was a great night and felt great to be out here," reigning OVC Coach of the Year Jason Simpson said. "It has been two years since we have had a spring practice and that is really when your players develop. That is where you have time to practice, watch the tape and really grow mentally and physically as you are teaching the nuances of the game. We started the practice by saying nobody can take away the trophy that you won last year but that is in the past, now you have to go earn another one."
"Every coach and every player in this program will watch this tape today and see some level of improvement that needs to be made before we get out here Friday. I am excited to see if we will all be ready to accept that challenge."
The Skyhawks will have one more practice this week on Friday, April 18 at 6:45 p.m. before taking a slight hiatus for Spring Break next week. The team will then return to action for their third practice on Tuesday, March 29.
