OVERNIGHT SNOW PUTS UTM BASEBALL ON HOLD FOR 24 HOURS; NOW SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER IN ARKANSAS

CONWAY, Ark. – Thanks to a snow accumulation of nearly three inches overnight in the local area, the University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team will be forced to wait an extra day to meet the Creighton Bluejays on a neutral field, as Saturday's contest has officially been deemed postponed.
The neutral-site game – held at Central Arkansas' Bear Stadium – was originally scheduled for a 3:00 first pitch this afternoon, although the winter storm that ensued following yesterday's victory over UCA forced both sides to change plans and opt to try again on Sunday. Weather permitting, the Skyhawks will now play a double-header versus Creighton and Central Arkansas at the close of the weekend, with the first bout tabbed for 11:00 a.m. and the second half immediately thereafter.
UT Martin had no problems taking care of the Bears on Friday in the team's first shutout win of 2022, blanking Central Arkansas 3-0 behind Rhett Fetner's complete game on the mound. Marking the first time a Skyhawk pitcher went the distance while also maintaining a shutout since 2016, the one-sided victory gave UTM their first W in Conway since 2002 and the school's second all-time.
The navy and orange have only tangled with Creighton on one prior occasion – a three-game series back in 2008 – lending tomorrow afternoon's matchup an intriguing one as the Skyhawks enter with a 5-7 overall record. As soon as that contest has been solidified, a second bout with UCA awaits before UT Martin returns home on Tuesday for a midweek showdown against Southern Illinois.
