MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team will hit the links in an official capacity for the first time in nearly four months when it visits Goodyear, Ariz. for the Loyola Intercollegiate on Feb. 20-22.
The Skyhawks are competing in their sixth consecutive Loyola Intercollegiate, first taking part in the event in 2016. This will be the first time the tournament has been held since 2020 as last year's event was cancelled. UT Martin is one of 18 teams in the 2022 tournament field as the 54-hole event is held annually at Palm Valley Golf Club.
Tate Chumley (72.6 scoring average) will represent the Skyhawks in the No. 1 position in the lineup at the Loyola Intercollegiate as he owns one medalist victory and two top-five finishes this season. Jacob Uehlein (73.4 scoring average, three top-20 finishes) will compete at No. 2 and is followed in the No. 3 slot by Jonathan Xoinis (73.2 scoring average, four top-20 finishes). Garrett Chumley, who won the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational on Sept. 27-28, has collected a 73.7 scoring average this season and claimed the No. 4 position. Bryson Morrell (75.3 scoring average, one top-five performance) is UT Martin's fifth member of the scoring lineup while Cayden Chambers (76.2 scoring average) will compete as an individual.
Recently tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference favorites following the program's second-ever league championship last April, the Skyhawks are coming off a strong fall season. UT Martin brought home three tournament team championships – plus a pair of individual victories – in five chances.
Overall, the Skyhawks will play six regular season tournaments in five different states this spring. UT Martin is also slated to compete in the Gulf Coast Collegiate in Bay St. Louis, Miss. on Feb. 28-March 1 before competing in four tournaments in four weeks to close out the regular season. That stretch begins with the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo. (March 21-22) and is followed by the LaTour Intercollegiate in Houma, La. (March 28-29). The inaugural Carpenter/Chaney Classic is set for April 4-5 in Tunica, Miss. while the Skyhawks travel to the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate on April 11-12.
UT Martin then heads to Cape Girardeau, Mo. for the 2022 OVC Championships, which will take place at Dalhousie Golf Course on April 24-27.
