**Jason Simpson's Weekly Press Conference is below**
The No. 25 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin football program will compete for back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference championships when playing host to league rival Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 19. Additionally, the Skyhawks will honor the team's seniors and graduates in a pregame ceremony prior to scheduled kickoff at 2 p.m.
Prior to kickoff, the Skyhawks will honor its senior class and graduates including Andre Brackett, Colton Dowell, John H. Ford II, Matthan Hatchie, Rob Hicks, Bradley Jones, Shaun Lewis, TJ Neal, Frankie Onate, Brock Powers, Deven Sims, D'Marius Warren, Keion Willis, Dresser Winn and Ty Woods. In addition to pregame festivities honoring the team's seniors, UT Martin will show its appreciation for our active duty and military veterans by providing complimentary admission.
The Skyhawks enter the final week of the regular season with a 6-4 overall mark and 4-0 in league play. UT Martin currently sits in prime position to claim back-to-back OVC league championships as a win against Eastern Illinois will clinch at least a share of the 2022 league title. With a win, the Skyhawks will be the first team to win consecutive titles since Jacksonville State won five straight titles form 2014-18.
UT Martin picked up a road win at Tennessee State by a final score of 20-3 to clinch the program's 10th Sgt. York Trophy. The Skyhawks remained unbeaten in OVC play behind a dominating defensive performance which featured two interceptions, a blocked field goal and a season-low three points allowed. Ty Woods was recognized as both the OVC Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week after tallying five tackles, a 39-yard interception returned for a touchdown and a blocked field goal.
Several Skyhawks are on milestone watch as both running back Zak Wallace (959 rushing yards) and wide receiver Colton Dowell (918 receiving yards) are within 100 yards of reaching respective 1,000-yard plateaus. Quarterback Dresser Winn also sits 299 yards away from becoming the fourth player in UT Martin history to pass for 3,000 yards in a single season.
Eastern Illinois (2-8, 1-3 OVC) enters the matchup having lost five consecutive contests. The Panthers are a run-heavy squad which averages 153.1 yards per game while also ranking as one of the nation's top pass defenses with 13 interceptions. The squad plays two quarterbacks with the duo of Jonah O'Brien and Dom Shoffner combining to throw for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while also rushing for nine of the team's 11 touchdowns on the ground. Defensively, Jordan Vincent leads the team with 78 tackles while him and Elijaw Tolbert pace the squad with three interceptions each.
Saturday's contest marks the 28th meeting between the two programs with Eastern Illinois holding a 15-12 advantage in the all-time series. UT Martin has shifted the narrative in recent history by winning five of the last six meetings.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with John Hatler (play-by-play), Chris Brinkley (analyst) and Eddie Suiter (analyst) calling the action. Fans can also tune into WCMT 1410 AM/100.5 FM for the radio broadcast. Those links – in addition to live stats – can be found at the top of the page.
