MARTIN, Tenn. – Several national men's college basketball preview magazines are forecasting success for the University of Tennessee at Martin in the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The Skyhawks are tabbed to finish first in the Ohio Valley Conference by Chris Dortch's Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. In addition, author John Moorehouse identified UT Martin senior guard KJ Simon as the OVC Preseason Player of the Year as well as earning a spot on its five-man Preseason All-OVC team. The magazine also hailed the Skyhawks as having the "Top Backcourt" in the league.
The Almanac also chose UT Martin as the OVC's preseason favorites as well as a "Sleeper Team". Writer Sean Paul predicted the trio of Simon (Defensive Player of the Year), Parker Stewart (Newcomer of the Year) and Ryan Ridder (Coach of the Year) to win the league's major awards. Simon and Stewart were each chosen on the publication's five-man Preseason All-OVC squad while graduate guard Stewart was named "Player Who Scares You The Most."
Lindy's Sports selected the Skyhawks to finish fourth in the 10-team OVC standings. The magazine selected Stewart as its OVC Preseason Player of the Year as well as the league's "Best Shooter", "Most Versatile" and "Best NBA Prospect". The publication chose Stewart and Simon on its five-player Preseason All-OVC first team.
The official OVC preseason poll and all-conference squad will be released in conjunction with the league's Media Day festivities in Evansville, Ind. on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
