MARTIN, Tenn. – A busy weekend is in store for the University of Tennessee at Martin rifle program as UAB and North Georgia are visiting the Skyhawk Rifle Range on Jan. 22-23.
This weekend marks the first home competition for UT Martin in nearly a calendar year as the Skyhawks last hosted an opponent on Jan. 24, 2021.
UT Martin's matchup against UAB will be two relays that will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Skyhawks then host No. 17 North Georgia at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23 in one relay where only four participants from each team will compete in both smallbore and air rifle with all four scores counting towards the aggregate total.
UT Martin retained its No. 20 national ranking in this week's Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll after a strong performance at current No. 6 Murray State last Saturday. The Skyhawks earned season-high scoring tallies in aggregate (4,602) and air rifle (2,324) points while coming just five points shy of their season-best score in smallbore.
Jennifer Plocinik continued her phenomenal 2021-22 campaign the last time out, guiding UT Martin in aggregate scoring (season-high 1,164 points) for the sixth consecutive match. The redshirt senior out of Lehighton, Pa. registered a 578 in smallbore to go along with 586 in air rifle.
Also standing out for the Skyhawks last Saturday was junior Nick Fares (career-high scores of 572 in smallbore and 583 in air rifle) and freshman Jesse Chamberlain (career-best 574 in air rifle).
In smallbore, Plocinik and Rachel Sprague share the team lead in scoring average (570). Alayna Walther (565), Fares (558) and Chamberlain (553) round out the top-five for UT Martin. Plocinik's 582 average leads the way in air rifle as she is followed by Sprague (576), Fares (576), Walther (572) and Chamberlain (565).
Live scoring will be available for both matches this weekend at the links above.
