
SKYHAWK RIFLE SOARS TO 50-POINT VICTORY OVER UAB IN FRONT END OF WEEKEND HOMESTAND

MARTIN, Tenn. – For the second straight match, the No. 20 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team piled up a season-high air rifle score as the Skyhawks generated a 4,598-4,548 triumph over UAB today.
UT Martin accrued 2,331 points in air rifle today – seven points better than its previous high score that was set at Murray State last Saturday. The Skyhawks tacked on 2,267 smallbore points to claim their first victory of the season.
A pair of UT Martin representatives shattered their career-highs today, led by Nick Fares. The junior from Springboro, Ohio fired a 592 in air rifle – a remarkable nine points higher than his previous tally and the best score by any Skyhawk since his former teammate Kaitlin Korinek shot a 593 against Memphis at the NCAA Qualifier on Feb. 23, 2020 in Murray, Ky.
Also achieving a career-best score today was freshman Victoria Petersen, who accomplished that feat with a 557 in smallbore (surpassing the 555 points she posted at the JSU Invitational on Nov. 20).
Rachel Sprague led UT Martin in smallbore for the third time in 2021-22, accounting for 573 points. The Skyhawk scoring lineup was completed by Jennifer Plocinik (571), Fares (564), Alayna Walther (559) and Jesse Chamberlain (551). Meanwhile, Petersen (557), Rachel Mills (532) and Kalen Royal (496) competed individually for UT Martin.
In air rifle, Fares' 592 paced the Skyhawks for the second time this season in that category. UT Martin's team total was rounded out by Plocinik (584), Sprague (579) and Walther (576). Chamberlain (572) was the fifth and final member of the Skyhawk scoring lineup while Petersen (558), Royal (554) and Mills (541) shot on an individual basis.
Fares registered a team-high 1,156 aggregate points as Plocinik (1,155) and Sprague (1,152) followed closely behind. Walther (1,135), Chamberlain (1,123), Petersen (1,115), Mills (1,073) and Royal (1,050) finished up UT Martin's aggregate scoring on the day.
