MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball squad aims for its fifth consecutive home victory in the all-time series against Tennessee Tech when the in-state foes meet in an Ohio Valley Conference showdown on Saturday, Jan. 15. Tipoff time has been moved up to 2 p.m. due to Friday morning's postponement announcement of the women's game.
The Skyhawks (6-10, 2-2 OVC) have won six of the last eight contests against the Golden Eagles, including all four home matchups. UT Martin has not lost to Tennessee Tech inside the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center since Feb. 20, 2014 - winning the last four decisions by an average of 9.8 points per game.
Despite forcing Morehead State into 19 turnovers on Wednesday, the Skyhawks could not fend off a furious second half rally by the Eagles in a 76-62 road setback. Darius Simmons topped UT Martin in scoring for the fourth time this season with 12 points off the bench while KJ Simon collected 11 points.
Koby Jeffries, one of just two Skyhawks to start every game this season, racked up a career-best six steals last time out at Morehead State. That marked the most swipes by any UT Martin player against a Division I opponent since Delfincko Bogan tallied seven steals at Illinois on Nov. 12, 2017 (a span of 130 games).
The Golden Eagles (3-11, 0-1 OVC) are coming off a 92-77 setback in their OVC opener at Belmont on Thursday in a game that was put together in less than 24 hours' notice. Daniel Ramsey equaled a game-high with 18 points in only 20 minutes for Tennessee Tech, who was playing its first game in 23 days.
The backcourt duo of Jr. Clay and Keishawn Davidson have each played well against the Skyhawks in their collegiate careers. Clay - a Preseason All-OVC selection - has averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals in four games against UT Martin. Davidson, who leads the league with a .448 three-point field goal percentage, is responsible for 12.7 points, 5.0 assists and 1.7 steals over three career outings against the Skyhawks.
Chris Brinkley will call the game live from courtside on ESPN+ and locally on WCMT Radio 1410 AM/100.5 FM. Those links, plus a link for live stats, are located at the top of the webpage.
