MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team will look to put a bow on its regular season and send its seniors out on top when playing host to Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri on Tuesday, April 6. Senior Night festivities are scheduled to begin at approximately 6:45 with first touch scheduled for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Prior to the matchup, UT Martin will honor the team's eight graduating seniors Baylee Arnott, Blare Gerido, Morgan Glaenzer, Jaden Hildreth, Jill Hildreth, Bella Roberts, Jacalyn Schubring and Isabelle Thibault. During the group's tenure the Skyhawks have tallied 34 career victories, earned a berth to four OVC Soccer Championships and garnered one regular season league championship.
The Skyhawks (5-3-1) enter the season finale having won three straight matches while turning up the intensity on the offensive end as well. After entering last week with five goals through the first six matches, UT Martin exploded for seven goals in two matches against Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky to bring its season total up to 12.
UT Martin's freshman forward Emely van der Vliet was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the way for the Skyhawks offensive resurgence, scoring four goals over the last two matches – including her first career hat trick in the 5-1 win over Eastern Kentucky on Friday night to clinch a spot in the OVC tournament field. Van der Vliet leads the OVC in shots (33), shots per game (3.67), goals (six), goals per game (0.67) and game-winning goals (three). Jill Hildreth also posted a nice week by scoring three goals with one against Austin Peay and two against EKU.
Senior Erica Myers earned her fifth OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honor of her career after allowing one goal and recording a shutout last week. Myers ranks second in the league in both goals against average (0.74) and shutouts (four) while tallying 33 saves.
Southeast Missouri (6-2-1) started out the season with five straight wins before hitting a slight speed bump by dropping two of its last three contests. The Redhawks are led by the league's third-highest goal scorer in Lauren Welker who has tallied five goals and two assists for 12 points. Junior goalkeeper Bailey Redden is the OVC leader with five shutouts on the season while posting a 0.98 GAA with 44 saves.
With both teams clinching spots in next week's OVC Soccer Championship, the only thing left to decide will be the final seeding. With 19 total points, Southeast Missouri enters the matchup in third place while UT Martin sits in fourth with 16 points. A win by the Skyhawks would move them into the third position while bumping the Redhawks into fourth due to the tie-breaker rules. A win by the Redhawks would solidify at least the third seed and potentially the second seed depending on the result of SIUE's matchup.
Tuesday's matchup marks the 26th meeting between the two programs with Southeast Missouri holding an 11-8-6 advantage in the series since 1999. UT Martin has not lost to Southeast Missouri since 2016 while boasting a 3-0-2 mark against the Redhawks in Martin in the last five matches.
