MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team hosts an Ohio Valley Conference opponent for the first time in two weeks when it takes on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Tuesday, March 23. First touch is scheduled for 5 p.m. live on ESPN+.
The Skyhawks are 11-5-3 all-time against the Gamecocks, having not lost to Jacksonville State since Oct. 16, 2015. UT Martin has outscored the Gamecocks by a 11-2 margin in that span, including 8-1 over the last two seasons.
During the last meeting between these two teams on Oct. 27, 2019, Bella Roberts, Alice Adams, Sophia Mankowski and Jill Hildreth each found the back of the net for the Skyhawks. That marked the second goal of Adams' career against Jacksonville State, as she also struck for the game-winning goal as a freshman in the 1-0 triumph in 2017. Kamryn Chappell additionally contributed a goal off a penalty kick in the 2018 matchup against the Gamecocks while Roberts was responsible for an assist in that same match.
Erica Myers has allowed only one goal over three matches against Jacksonville State, posting shutouts in both 2019 and 2017. The Holland, Ohio native has made 11 saves in just under 255 minutes in goal against the Gamecocks in her career.
A trio of UT Martin representatives rank in the OVC's top-10 in a variety of statistical categories during the 2020-21 campaign. Hendrikje Baurmann's two assists are good enough for fifth place in the league while Emely van der Vliet ranks ninth in shots per match (2.40). Meanwhile, Myers ranks atop the OVC in shutouts (two) while ranking fourth in goals against average (0.98) for the Skyhawks, who are 2-3 overall at the midway point of the season.
Jacksonville State is also 2-3 so far in 2020-21 but has won two straight while two of its setbacks have come in overtime. Last Friday, the Gamecocks knocked off then-OVC leader Murray State by a 2-1 margin at home as Cynthia Bagozzi was responsible for the game-winning goal in the 61st minute. Bagozzi ranks second in the league with three goals while Alicia Pallister has distributed an OVC-best four assists for Jacksonville State, who ranks second in the conference in goals per match (2.20).
