SKYHAWK TENNIS BEGINS OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE PLAY WITH HOME OPENER AGAINST SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; MATCH MOVED TO SUNDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – An Ohio Valley Conference opponent will visit the Skyhawk Tennis Complex for the first time in exactly 700 days when the University of Tennessee at Martin clashes against Southeast Missouri at 1 p.m. this Sunday, March 21. The match was originally scheduled for Friday, March 19 but was pushed back as a result of inclement weather conditions.
UT Martin will play in front of the home crowd for the first time since hosting the Skyhawk Fall Invite on Oct. 24-25, 2019. Friday will mark the first regular season home match for the Skyhawks since a 4-3 OVC victory over Eastern Illinois on April 21, 2019.
UT Martin owns a 26-3 all-time record against Southeast Missouri but it was the Redhawks who won a 5-2 decision the last time these two sides met on March 22, 2019. Skyhawk senior Amelia Campbell is perfect against Southeast Missouri in her career (1-0 singles, 1-0 doubles) while Mizuki Sakurai has also earned a singles win in her career against the Redhawks.
During its season-opening eight-match road swing, UT Martin faced stiff competition and has showed gradual improvement throughout the first two months. Competing exclusively at No. 3, the tandem of Sakurai and Sina Albersmeier boast a team-best 4-2 record in doubles. The duo of Campbell and Jule Streif has also generated two victories at the No. 1 slot so far this season.
In singles, Albersmeier has a pair of wins (one at No. 4, one at No. 5) while Sakurai has additionally contributed two victories (one at No. 5, one at No. 6). Last week, Campbell (No. 1) and Streif (No. 2) also claimed their first singles wins of the 2020-21 campaign.
Predicted to finish third in the OVC preseason poll, Southeast Missouri enters league play on a three-match winning streak. Romana Tarajova (fourth) and Kseniya Zonova (eighth) were each selected as OVC Preseason Top-10 players while Daniela Hlacikova has recorded a team-best eight singles victories this spring for head coach Mary Beth Gunn, who is in her sixth season after an All-OVC playing career at UT Martin.
