
ALBERSMEIER VICTORIOUS IN SINGLES BUT UT MARTIN TENNIS COMES UP SHORT AGAINST SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin started its home and Ohio Valley Conference season this afternoon, falling by a 6-1 margin to Southeast Missouri at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex.
Sina Albersmeier was responsible for a singles victory as the junior from Moers, Germany posted a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles over Ksenia Shikanova.
UT Martin nearly came away with two more wins in singles but were outlasted in third-set tiebreakers. Amelia Campbell fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 while Ariadna Ondo was defeated 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 slot.
Jule Streif put up a fight at No. 2 singles but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-4. Aziza Aubin (lost 6-3, 6-3) and Mizuki Sakurai (lost 6-1, 6-2) represented the Skyhawk lineup at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
In doubles, UT Martin's No. 3 team of Albersmeier/Sakurai were deadlocked in a 5-5 battle but the match was not finished because the visiting Redhawks had claimed the point. Campbell/Streif fell 6-4 at No. 1 while the duo of Aubin/Ondo were defeated 6-0 at No. 2.
The Skyhawks now go on the road for each of their next three matches, starting with a visit to OVC rival Belmont on Friday, March 26.
