
SKYHAWK SOCCER DROPS 1-0 NAILBITER AT MOREHEAD STATE

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team pushed Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State to the brink on Tuesday afternoon, outshooting the home team 12-6 before a late goal in the 77th minute led to the Eagles eventual 1-0 victory.
The Skyhawks fell to 2-3 on the season and suffered their third straight loss despite outshooting Morehead State by a 12-6 advantage in the contest. Defensively, the Eagles were limited to just two shots in the second half.
Hendrikje Baurmann and Jaden Hildreth paced the team with three shot attempts each. Jill Hildreth and Emely van der Vliet also registered multiple attempts on the afternoon while five different players notched shots on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Erica Myers faced three shots on goal in the contests, tallying two saves. For the season she boasts a 0.98 goals against average along with a .762 save percentage.
UT Martin posed an early threat in the contest with back-to-back shots in a matter of seconds as Jaden Hildreth tallied two of her three shot attempts in the 23rd minute with her first shot being blocked before rifling off another attempt which was saved just eight seconds later.
The Skyhawks had two more shots on goal in the final minutes of the first half as Morehead State goalkeeper Michelle Jerantowski thwarted a shot attempt by Jill Hildreth with a save in the 41st minute before registering her third and final of the half in the 43rd minute off the foot of Baylee Arnott.
The score would remain tied at the half and through much of the second until the Eagles finally broke through in the 77th minute on a goal by Abby Wesselkamper as she flicked a shot attempt through the legs of a Skyhawk defender and into the right corner of the goal.
UT Martin would string together one final scoring opportunity in the 82nd minute as van der Vliet rifled a shot attempt which belted off the crossbar and back into the defensive territory to no avail.
The Skyhawks will return to action at home next Tuesday, March 23 when playing host to Jacksonville State.
