STREIF SCORES A SINGLES VICTORY BUT UT MARTIN TENNIS FALLS 6-1 IN ROAD CONTEST AT MIDDLE TENNESSEE

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team put the finishing touches on a season-opening eight-match road swing this afternoon as the Skyhawks dropped a 6-1 decision at Middle Tennessee.
Jule Streif collected her first singles victory of the 2020-21 campaign today as the senior from Oberkirch, Germany earned a win at No. 2. Aziza Aubin came close to posting a win at No. 3 singles but fell 6-2, 5-7, 10-3. At No. 1, Campbell made a strong bid for a victory but was defeated by a 7-5, 6-4 margin. Ariadna Ondo fell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 6 while Sina Albersmeier (6-1, 6-4 at No. 4) and Mizuki Sakurai (6-1, 6-1) competed throughout but were defeated at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The doubles point came down to the last matchup as Albersmeier and Sakurai came away with a 6-3 victory at No. 3. However, the UT Martin tandems of Campbell/Streif (lost 6-4 at No. 1) and Aubin/Ondo (lost 6-1 at No. 2) could not establish early momentum for the Skyhawks.
UT Martin will make its 2020-21 home and Ohio Valley Conference debut on Friday, March 12 when it takes on Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m.
