
DASIA YOUNG EARNS SECOND OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR THIS SEASON

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time this season, University of Tennessee at Martin women's basketball forward Dasia Young has been named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after a pair of strong performances against SIUE and Eastern Illinois last weekend.
A native of Jonesboro, Ark., Young averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 73.9 percent from the field. She began the week with 15 points and four rebounds in a road win at SIUE while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the free throw stripe. Then against Eastern Illinois she kept the Skyhawks in the contest and keyed a comeback victory with a career-high performance, tallying 30 points and four rebounds. In that game she made 12-of-13 field goal attempts while drawing nine fouls for her first 30-point outing.
Young has tallied nine straight games in double figures this season. The sophomore has become a force in OVC play, averaging 12.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while posting eight games with 15 points or more.
In total, UT Martin claimed seven of the 13 possible OVC Player of the Week honors this season with teammate Chelsey Perry earning five by herself.
Young and the Skyhawks will open play in the OVC Basketball Championship presented by Kentucky Wild on Wednesday, March 3 against No. 8 seed Eastern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
